Highland TV is a family owned and operated business.
Indirectly it began in the 30's with Ernest Jones Radio. The fourth generation of family is now operating Highland TV and Appliance. Ernest Jones's son-in-law Bert Saville worked with Ernest in the 50's and 60's. In 1972 he began Highland TV in the Park View Shopping Center. Soon he became a Curtis Mathes dealer and began to prosper. Curtis Mathes developed an ownership program for people without credit, calling it Rent-to-Own. Highland TV built a larger building next door, the third location and moved to it. VCR's had been invented so Highland TV started a Movie Club for people to rent movies. It soon became apparent that the business was more than Bert could handle alone so he invited his son-in-law, Jason Peoples, to join him in 1985.
In 1986 Highland TV began selling appliances and
became Highland TV and Appliance.
To become more competitive in February of 1992 Highland TV and Appliance joined AVB BrandSource, a cooperative buying group. Appliances required more space so Bert purchased the old Lowe's building from Hoyt Minges, Sr. and Highland TV and Appliance moved to its current Kinston location. After the loss of the bookkeeper; Sherrie Peoples came to work. In 1994 high end appliances became a part of the offerings and the rent-to-own became its separate identity, Quick-Rent. In 2006 a second location was opened in New Bern. Jacob Peoples, Jason's son, came to work full time in 2007. In 2008 Jason's son-in-law, Eric Shaw, joined the company and began running the New Bern location.
In addition to selling electronics and appliances, we also offer custom installations of both including cabinet modifications at a per job quoted price. As a family owned business there is a commitment to endurance… an enduring commitment to support the customer long after the first sale to continue to the next sale and generation through satisfaction and trust.
